A study that dramatically demonstrates that we reincarnate with love ones from past incarnations involves a set of 31 twins that Ian Stevenson researched, in which enough information was given by the twins to factually validate their past incarnations.

He found that in all these cases, involving 62 individuals, the twins had some type of intimate relationship in their prior incarnations.

The most common type of past life relationship was that of siblings, which represented 11/31 or 35% of cases. One set of twins were also twins in their prior incarnations.

In 9/31 or 29% of twin cases, the twins were friends, acquaintances or business associates. Other family relationships, such as being cousins, made up 6/31 or 19% of twin cases. In 5/31 or 16% of twin cases, the twins were married in the past incarnation.  This information is summarized in the table provided below: (1)

Past Life Relationships of Twins:

Siblings-35%

Friends, business associates-29%

Other family relationships-19%

Spouses-16%

These twin studies, as well as other same family reincarnation cases, show that souls can plan incarnations from the spirit world and even choose parents for upcoming incarnations.

One set of twins in this study also shows how facial features can remain consistent from lifetime to lifetime. This involves the reincarnation cases of Daw Aye Phyu | Ma Nyunt Nyunt San and Daw Sapai | Ma San San Nyunt, whose images are provided to the right. Soul Planning Results in Destined Relationships

Reincarnation cases also show that souls can plan lifetimes to be brought together even when they are not born into the same family. These are described in the section Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation.

How do we connect with the people we have planned to be with? The answer, I believe, is destiny. In analyzing past life cases, it appears that we all have a predetermined destiny or life plan, which brings us to the people we are supposed to spend time with. To better understand how destiny works, I use the analogy of a journey.

UniversalTravel735finalThink of your life as an extended vacation that you plan in advance. You decide who you want and need to see, where you want to go and what activities you would like to participate in. You coordinate your itinerary with the people you are to rendezvous with. You, your karmic friends and loved ones all agree to the plan before you are born.

Once you come into life, destiny ensures that you meet up with your karmic soul group. The settings for karmic affiliations can be our families, as noted in the twin studies, as well as our work life and recreational pursuits. These settings are stages on which we play out the karmic dramas of our lives. This casts a new light on Shakespeare’s phrase, “All of life is but a stage.”

We meet up with different karmic groups at different points in life. When we get the urge to take a new job, travel to a new city or take up a new recreational pursuit, many times this is a part of our destiny being played out. New venues bring us to karmic or soul groups we need to be with. When we meet up with our past life friends, though we may not be aware of what the past life relationship was, we have a sense of familarity or attraction.

Reincarnation and Love at First Sight: A Likely Past Life Relationship

The phenomenon of “love at first sight” is one example of how emotions can bring together individuals who have made a plan or contract to be together even before they were born.

Reincarnation and Free Will

If it is true that we have a destiny or life plan, one must question whether we have free will. My belief is that though we all have a predetermined itinerary that we are committed to honor; we have free will in what we do along the way. Indeed, growth and human evolution could not occur without free will. Some people may have a more structured itinerary that limits diversionary treks, while others may have a less structured game plan. Either way, we have free will along our destined paths.

Déjà Vu and Reincarnation

Karmic groups provide insights regarding déjà vu experiences. If we meet up with people we have known in past lives, it is not surprising that we may have a spark of recognition when we meet. Since people have consistent patterns of behavior, we may recognize these traits and idiosyncratic reactions when situations recur. Finally, déjà vu may occur if we recognize an event that is part of our itinerary. We may become aware of a road mark along our predetermined path.

Walk-in Phenomenon Defined & Revival of a Dead Body-Introduction

A walk-in describes one soul taking over a human body that was previously animated by a different soul. In one case an individual appears to have died before another soul took over the body, which was revived. The symbol for walk-ins represents a soul approaching a body before assuming it.

Article by: Walter Semkiw

walk-in-reincarnation-research-heaven-can-waitThe phenomenon of a walk-in describes one soul taking over a human body that was previously animated by a different soul. Walk-ins have been discussed in past life regression literature, but only one Ian Stevenson case validates the walk-in phenomenon with evidence. In this one case an individual appears to have died before another soul took over the body, which came back to life. The walk-in phenomenon appears to be extremely rare.

Though rare, the walk-in phenomenon has been portrayed in the lighthearted stage play, Heaven can Wait by Harry Segall, which was made into the movies Here Comes Mr. Jordan with Robert Montgomery, Heaven Can Wait with Warren Beatty and Down to Earth with Chris Rock.

The symbol for walk-ins represents a soul approaching a body before assuming it.

Reincarnation and Suicide-Introduction

Ian Stevenson, MD reincarnartion cases in which suicide was committed in a past lifetime. The symbol for reincarnation cases involving suicide is an X, representing negation, on a green background, which symbolizes life.

Ian Stevenson, MD, documented a number of reincarnation cases in which an individual committed suicide in the past life. Phobias or behaviors in the contemporary lifetime are observed related to the manner suicide was committed in the past lifetime.

Though suicide is something that tragic for all involved, it is reassuring that evolution for the soul continues.

The symbol for reincarnation cases involving suicide is an X, representing negation, on a green background, which symbolizes life.

Split Incarnation or Parallel Lives-Introduction

Evidence that a soul can animate more than one body at a time. The symbol for split incarnation is two individuals arising from a central soul.

Article by Walter Semkiw, MD

Split Incarnation or Parallel Lives Defined

Parallel Lives or Split ReincarnationIndependently researched reincarnation cases, including many studied by Ian Stevenson, MD, demonstrate that a soul may animate more than one physical body at a time. Ian Stevenson called reincarnation cases in whIch lifetimes overlap as “cases with anomalous dates.”

I term this phenomenon as “split incarnation.”  I refer to two people who derive from the same soul, who are incarnate at the same time, as “splits”.  “Parallel lives” is an older term that has been used to describe the phenomenon of splits incarnated at the same time. I coined the term “split” in the year 2000.

A variant of split incarnation is when a person is alive and at the same time, that person’s soul has animated a fetus which will be born in the future. In this case, a person and that person’s fetus for an upcoming incarnation exist at the same time.

How does split incarnation work? Though we don’t know for sure, we can imagine split incarnation as similar to how a mirror can split a beam of light into two or more beams of light.  Similarly, the soul can project more than one beam of light or energy template into physical incarnation at a time.

We can imagine two splits as two arms of a human being.  Each arm has its separate existence, yet both arms are controlled by one brain or mind.  In split incarnation, we can see two splits as two appendages of the soul.  How many splits can a soul project onto the physical world at a time?  As is discussed in the section, Soul Evolution, it is believed that the maximum number is about seven, though having this number of splits at the same time is rare.

Phobias in Reincarnation Cases-Introduction

Phobias may be due to past life trauma. The symbol for phobias is a snake.

phobias in reincarnation casesArticle by: Walter Semkiw, MD

Phobias in a current lifetime can result from trauma in a past lifetime. In particular, a traumatic cause of death often leads to a phobia related to that particular cause of death. For example, someone who died in a car accident may have a phobia of automobiles in a subsequent lifetime.

A snake phobia is observed in the Sharada xenoglossy case.

Gender Change in Reincarnation Cases and Homosexuality-Introduction

Gender change occurs in only 10 percent of reincarnation cases, which can help us understand homosexuality and transsexualism. The diagram for gender change in reincarnation cases is the male and female symbols merged, indicating me can be male and female across incarnations.

reincarnation and gender change

Article by Walter Semkiw, MD

Reincarnation research reveals that gender can change from one lifetime to another, though facial features or facial architecture can remain consistent.

Gender Change in Reincarnation Cases, Homosexuality and Transsexualism

Ian Stevenson MD found that in his series of 1200 validated childhood past memory cases, in only 10% of cases was a gender change observed. In other words, 90% of the time individuals reincarnationed in the same gender. This infers that each soul has a preferred gender.

In some cases of gender change, the individual may still relate to the gender in the prior incarnation, which can lead to homosexuality or lesbianism. Two cases that demonstrate this phenomenon include:

A Male Japanese Soldier Reincarnates as a Woman and becomes a Lesbian: Understanding Homosexuality through Reincarnation

Chuey, a Boy, Drowns & Reincarnates as a Girl, but Retains Male Traits

Though no reincarnation cases have been documented that involve transsexualism, it is likely that some individuals who are transsexual or have gender identity issues represent gender change cases, in which the person still relates to the gender of a prior incarnation.

Xenoglossy & Retention of the Personality with the Soul-Introduction

Xenoglossy is defined as the ability to speach a language from a past life, which was not learned in the contemporary life. How xenoglossy cases imply that personalities from one’s lifetimes are retained in the soul. The symbol for xenoglossy consists of two caption boxes, representing speach or two languages.

Article by Walter Semkiw, MD

XenoglossyXenoglossy is a Greek term that means “foreign tongue” or “foreign language.”  In reincarnation research, xenoglossy refers to the ability of a person to speak a language that hasn’t been learned by normal means.

Xenoglossy is thought to provide evidence of reincarnation, as a language must be learned at some point in time.  If an individual did not learn the foreign language in a contemporary incarnation, then that language must have been learned in a past lifetime.

Ian Stevenson, MD described two categories of xenoglossy:

Recitative Xenoglossy

In this condition, an individual can speak a language that hasn’t been learned, but the individual cannot respond, or converse, in that language.

Responsive Xenoglossy

In this situation, an individual can also speak in a foreign language that hasn’t been learned.  In addition, this individual can understand other people speaking the language and can respond, can participate in conversation, in that language.

Ian Stevenson makes the assertion that in responsive xenoglossy, the individual must have learned and practiced the language at some point in time. Stevenson points out that to converse in a language, practice is required.

If this practice was not done in the contemporary incarnation, then the language must have been learned and practiced in a past incarnation.

Speaking in Tongues

Let us also consider the phenomenon of glossolabia, which is the scientific term for speaking in tongues.  Glossolabia is practiced by certain branches of Christianity.  Speaking in tongues differs from xenoglossy in that xenoglossy involves the ability to speak a known foreign language, which other people also understand.

The Ability of the Soul to Retain Past Life Personalities

In some xenoglossy cases, it is observed that the past life personality appears to be almost transported in time from a prior incarnation to the present.  The past life personality may not even know that it has died. A further discusssion of this phenomenon is found in: Principles of Reincarnation

The symbol for xenoglossy consists of two caption boxes, representing speach or two languages.

Planning Lifetimes & Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation-Introduction

Souls can plan lifetimes, which implies a personal destiny, as supported by announcing dreams. The symbol for Planning Lifetimes is a folding map, our life’s journey.

Planning future lifetimes Article by Walter Semkiw, MD

Reincarnation research shows that souls can plan lifetimes to be reunited with loved ones, including being reborn into the past life family. Souls can also be born in a different family but geographically close to the past life family, which allows a reunion to occur. These types of cases show that we plan lifetimes.

Future parents can learn that a particular soul that will become their child through dreams, in which the incarnating soul communicates with the future parents.  Ian Stevenson, MD, called these types of events: Announcing Dreams

The symbol for announcing dreams represents a folding map, in that we plan our lifetime’s journey to be reunited with loved ones, fulfill karma and participate in projects.

Innate Past Life Talent and Child Prodigies in Reincarnation Cases-Introduction

Child prodigies and innate abilities can be explained through reincarnation. The symbol for past life talent represents the knowledge of the soul penetrating into the mind of the personality.

Reincarnation research shows that behaviors and talents can be transferred from one incarnation to another. Even artistic compositions can be unconsciously replicated from one lifetime to another, as seen in the Paul Gauguin | Peter Teekamp reincarnation case. This phenomenon can explain child prodigies.

The symbol for past life talent represents the knowledge of the soul penetrating into the mind of the personality.

Birthmarks in Reincarnation Cases-Introduction

Traumatic wounds in one lifetime can result in scars in the same location in a subsequent lifetime.

Ian Stevenson, MD found that people who died of traumatic wounds in a past lifetime often had birthmarks or scars in the same anatomic area when they were reborn.
